New York City is the most populous city in the United States, incorporating five counties (known as "boroughs" for intra-city political purposes). The immediate New York City metropolitan area includes suburban Long Island, northern and central New Jersey (including Newark), Westchester and Rockland counties, and the west end of Connecticut.
